Do We Need A Skip Hire Permit?

If your skip is to be place on the public highway, or council owned land, you may require a permit from the Local authority. Staff at B & J Metals will be happy to advise you, and make all the necessary applications to the relevant authorities in order to meet the requirements of the Highways Act 1980 (3 days required by Local Authorities to process permits).

What can't I put in my skip?

Certain materials, such as asbestos, oil, printing inks, any liquid waste and clinical waste, have been classified as hazardous waste, requiring specialised removal and disposal routes, and are not to be placed in the skip.

Examples of waste products that need specialist removal:

• Asbestos

• tyres

• Creosote or the cans or containers that have   contained any of these products

• Fluorescent tubes

• Fridges or Freezers

• Gas Bottles
